Editing the Commercial Blog

Today I supposed to start editing but the computers are not working. I also had to do more filming. Well acting, because I am not the director. But today I did have to film a little bit. I came to class feeling confident about the commercial, just to find out the computers are broken. I really do not even know what happened to the computers. I Just got to class and my teacher told us the computers are broken. I also don't know if we will be able to use the computers next class. But I was also able to get the footage onto the computer much easier than last time. All of my footage was also still there.

There was a little bit of difficulty in getting the footage onto my flash drive. But all the footage was transferred successfully. With the computers not working with the editing, I had a little bit of time at the end of class. I used that time to start this blog. I didn't get much done on it but I was at least able to start it. Hopefully, the computers are working the next class. Then I will be able to start editing my footage. If the computers are not working next class I don't know what I will do. Or we might have another assignment. But I can't really think of another assignment that we would have.

The filming of the final scenes was successful. It took a little more than half the class. But I gave myself enough time to get back to class and put my footage on the computer. Then onto the flash drive. Also, this time I knew how to use the tripod. This meant that when I tried putting the camera onto the tripod, I didn't have to ask someone for help. But there were a lot of people on the track. This made it hard to film. Then they kept getting in the way on purpose, which was very irritating. But I needed the footage so unfortunately, they were in some of the shots.

Filming Blog

Today we started actually filming our commercial. Or my partner started filming because I was acting the whole time. It took a little while to get started because we didn't know how to put the camera on the tripod. But we eventually figured it out with some help. But I was the actor. I did no filming. I did a couple shots where I was running and acting really tired. Well, actually we did that one a lot since I am a pretty bad actor. I got multiple Gatorade bottles so if I Messed up or something we had a backup. But nothing bad happened.

The filming went good, we got a lot of shots. Some of them were good and others were pretty bad. We got some shots of me drinking the Gatorade and zooming in on the Gatorade. There was also one scene where I had to flip the bottle. But every time I was not being filmed, I landed it, but when I was being filmed, I could not land it a single time. The track had a lot of people filming and it was hard to get shots in because we were sharing this one part of the track with another group. I got sweaty because I was running a lot and it was also very hot like always in South Florida. After filming we went back inside. This was the most difficult part because once we got back inside we had to dump our footage but it took a very long time to find a working computer. I mostly ran and nothing else, next class we are going to do the second part of our commercial.

There was some footage where it was recording and I did not even know. I drank a lot of Gatorade when we were filming. When I had to flip the bottle, I had to drink a little every time. This made it harder to flip it successful because the weight changed every time. We got a couple times of me doing it and it felt so good when I landed it successfully. Then we got a couple of me sprinting down the track. There were actually a decent amount of those. Then there were the ones where I had to act really tired like I had just run a marathon. Overall it was pretty good and we got some good shots. It was a good experience for me.

Storyboard Blog

Today we did our storyboard, which is where we pretty much planned what we are going to do in our commercial. Things like camera angles, what types of shots there will be, and the mise en scene. We also figured out what each scene will have in it. We planned to use multiple camera angles and shots. Those include pan shot, eye-level shot, and a crane shot. We also plan to use multiple camera angles, which include tracking shot, zoom out. All of our lighting is going to be natural lighting, which comes from the sun. We also planned what props that we are going to use and how. We will be filming our commercial on the track. We planned everything, now lets hope that the commercial goes according to plan.

Editing Lesson Blog

Today in class we learned how to edit on the computers using Pinnacle Studios. My teacher went over the procedures for checking out the camera and making a folder and how to use the camera and stuff. First, we need to fill out the camera check out sheet and then we can take a camera. Next, we film and and and learned how to put the footage on the computer and then on to Pinnacle Studios. We also learned how to use the camera, tripod, and the SD card reader and how to plug it into the computer. We also learned that we have to make a folder for the footage and we use that same folder for the finished product. The overall procedures were decently simple and should be easy to understand. I just need to follow the notes and I should have no problems. When we take a camera to film, we have to return it the next day even if we do not have her class the next day. Every time you rent the camera you have to fill out the sheet over again and it is one sheet per pair, trio, and group.

Now, for the actual editing, my teacher went over the basics of editing and how to do certain things. She thought us how to delete, do transitions, add music, and other things that will be important factors in making our commercial good. We also learned how to do a "dump in", which is when you put the footage of the computer. The camera bag has a USB in the bag for you to use that works with the camera. We were shown how to import stuff from the computer on to Pinnacle Studios. We pick pieces of footage that we want than import those. We learned that raw footage means untouched or un-edited. We learned about different transitions, including fades, wipes, dissolves, and many more. My teacher also briefly went over how to do voice-overs. There's whole bunch of steps to it but if we plan on doing it we will have help.

To put music on the commercial we have to go on YouTube. Then we have to convert the music we want to an MP3. We learned that the razorblade symbol means to cut. Then after we cut the unwanted part, we put that part into an orange box and click delete. To detach audio, we have to put the clip into an orange box and then click delete. To avoid the computers crashing, we have to let them load completely when we click something. Finally, we need to add a title. The way we would do that is by simply click on the T. Then it will allow us to add a title for out commercial. We also learned about exporting and that it needs to be a MPEG 4. Well, that's everything that we learned today.

This will also include the props, costumes, schedule, location, and back up plan. I plan to be done filming on October 21 which is the class period I will have to film. I will also have props and the list of props is below. Everything else relating to my plan will also be below. My commercial will be finished by the end of the month.

  • Green Reusable Gatorade Bottle
We are going to drink from the bottles for the commercial promoting Gatorade.

Costumes
  • Normal Clothes
We are using normal clothes to show normal students drinking Gatorade and that it is the main subject of the commercial.

Schedule
  • Each day write new blog
  • Each day is a new assignment for the actual commercial
Each day we write a new blog about what we did that day for our project.

Location
  • All around the campus of Fort Lauderdale High School
We are going to be film for the commercial around different spots.

Back up plan
  • Someone is not here
  • It is raining
If my partner is not here I am going to find someone else to help me film and if it is raining we will film the commercial under a covered area.

Research Blog

The normal conventions for a Gatorade commercial are athletes or people working out. The subjects of the commercial normally drink a bottle of Gatorade before winning the big game or after a huge workout in the gym. The majority of the commercials end with the slamming the bottle down on the table or taking a huge sip from the bottle. A lot of the commercials are endorsed by professional athletes including J.J. Watt, Dwyane Wade, Serena Williams, Tiger Woods, and Katelyn Tuohy. The entirety of the commercials are action-packed. Gatorade endorses athletes from major sports.
Common lighting for the commercials is hard lighting on the athletes. Gatorade creates shadows on subjects. They often use natural lighting from the moon or the sun. The majority of the sound in the commercials is natural sound. Whether it’s the subjects breathing hard after a run or the alarm clock in the morning. Gatorade uses voice-overs or fast upbeat music.

Introductory

Hello, my name is Kol and this is my first blog. I go to Fort Lauderdale High School as a freshman. I have eight classes, which are Geometry, Biology, Aice English General Paper, French 1, Aice Media, Journalism, World History, and everybody's favorite, Study Hall. I am still adjusting to high school because it is nothing like middle school. It is much more work than in middle school, but I have met a lot of new people which is good.
Outside of school, here are many things I like to do. Those things consist of soccer, read, play video games, and listening to music (especially when I am doing homework). I do a lot of soccer but I am currently out with a calf tear, slight one but still our for four-six weeks. I have a lot more time on my hands to other things that I enjoy. With that time I just finished the book I had been reading and I had been reading this book for a while. I just never had time to finish with soccer and school, but since I am currently taking a break from soccer I finished the book within a week. Things I do not like is a different story. I do not like homework and nothing else really comes to mind. But homework is really high my list of dislikes, or whatever my dislikes are. In that case, it counts for multiple dislikes.
Well, that is most of the stuff you need to know about me. There is nothing super special about me as you can see but you might think differently. I also forgot to mention that I really do not like spiders. They are my biggest fear, so I guess that's another dislike of mine. Now I'm pretty sure that's everything about me.
