Music Video Filming Blog

Today I started filming my music video. It took a little bit to get started but once I did it went pretty well. I did not finish but got more than half done. I plan on finishing soon. By soon I mean during this long weekend I have coming up. Like I said I have about half left. But I got a little more than half done. I followed the storyboard for the most part. I don't remember making any changes. The filming went good overall.

Some of the scenes I did a bunch of retakes. Some of them I only had to do a few times. But I did take a decent amount of videos. When I go to finish I should have no problem finishing. Like I said I got most of it done. But I am the director, so I was filming. But there was one scene that I was in. There is one more scene that I am supposed to be in but I didn't get that far yet. Some scenes were more difficult than others. Some of them were easy to film.

I think that the rest of the scenes should be pretty easy. The only one that I think could cause me any trouble is the next one I have to do. It is probably the biggest scene in the whole music video. Well not probably. It is the biggest scene in the music video. After I film that scene, the rest should be pretty easy to film. This is because the ones after the main one are fairly simple. They should not take many takes. I should be able to get them on the first few tries. Overall, the first part of the filming went good.

Music Video Storyboard

Our Storyboard consists of what we want our music video it be. We want the main character to be getting bullied, then she comes back and teaches the bully a lesson. That is the overall concept for our music video.

The first scene is going to be an eye-level and medium-short shot. We will be in our normal clothes and no props. The setting is outside. There will be natural lighting

Second scene: High-shot, and the camera angles and everything is the same.

Third Scene: Pan shot and the same costumes and stuff. The lighting in this scene is also from the sun.

Fourth Scene: Low-shot, and the setting is now in the room. The lighting may be a little harder now.

Fifth Scene: Back to eye-level shot, no props really, and the lighting and costumes are still the same.

Sixth Scene- Eye-level, and mid-shot. Also setting and clothes the same.

Seventh Scene: Tracking-shot, and eye-level. It goes back to natural lighting but no costume changes. It is also now a natural setting.

Eighth Scene: Wide-shot, zoom-in. Setting and other stuff is still the same.

Ninth Scene: The angle would be from the waist up, but still, the setting and stuff is the same.

Tenth Scene: Eye-level and a medium shot. But lighting and setting still remains the same.

Eleventh Scene: Zoom and eye-level shot.

Twelfth Scene: Eye-level, mid-long shot.

Music Video Planning Blog

My group and I will be filming at someones house. Julia Maier's house to be exact. One of our friends will also be in the group. We chose to do this location because it would be the best for the music video. Also the setting is good for the type of song. There will be first aid kit at the location. There is also a pool and there be things just in case someone falls in. Also, going back to the location, we are going to try and set it up so it is like a school setting. For our safety, we will be really careful with what we do. This will be for the benefit of everyone.

We are going to use tables as desks. We are somewhat trying to simulate a classroom. We are also using paper and pencils like we are doing work in class. There are some other props that we might use but are not sure about. For example, we might use phones, computers, or things like that. Also, if there is a scene with pencils and paper, we will probably also use erasers. Also we might go outside and film. In that case we might use some outdoor chairs or something. Then if we do go outside we might not really use any props. But we will figure it out.

For costumes, we are going to be using our everyday clothes. This is because we are going to be simulating school. This means there is not any special uniforms or costumes we need. We already have all the dates for the things that are due. This Thursday, we have two blogs due. One of them is planning, the other is the storyboard. The final product is due December 9th of this year. The filming blogs are due towards the end of November. Also, we have to put the final music video on the teachers computer. If we follow everything, it should not be that difficult.

Intro to music video

The commercial project just ended, but it went well. I definitely learned a lot from it and will be able to use things I learned from it in the music video. Now I have to transition from about thirty seconds, which is what the commercial was, to about one minute and fifteen seconds which is about what the music video needs to be. The music video and commercial are very similar in some ways. But they are also different in some ways. I'm exited to start but also nervous that it will not be that good. The editing will definitely be better because we have more experience.

The song my partner and I chose was Roar by Katy Perry. We chose this song because it is upbeat and fun. The genre is pop. We looked at some other pop songs to get some idea of what conventions and stuff like that. I also think that with how the song is, it will be easy to come up with a story for it. That will make the whole project much easier. It also helped that we were able to agree on a song so fast.

Conventions

Genre- The genre of roar is pop. Pop is generally upbeat and positive.

Camera Angles/Shots- Many of the shots are eye-level and mid-shot. Some angles are a low shot or high shot.

Sound- Pop uses lots of bass in its music. The music is often upbeat.

Editing- There are lots of jump cuts. There are also some cross cutting.

CLAMPS

Costumes- There aren't really that many costumes. A lot of what they call costumes are just normal clothes.

Lighting- There is a lot of soft lighting. But not much hard lighting.

Acting- The acting in pop is mostly simple and not stuff to complicated.

Makeup- The makeup is natural in the sense of that it is not clear that you are wearing makeup. For example, concealer and powder and stuff like that.

Props- Many pop videos do not have props, or at least a lot of props.

Setting- Pop takes place in normal everyday places a lot of the time. However, there are some with natural settings.

Final Commercial Blog

I finished editing the commercial and it came out pretty good. It is not perfect, but it came out better than I thought. Also, the editing was not as difficult as I expected it to be and it went well. When I first started to watch the footage I had, it was lagging a lot. But as time went on it lagged a lot less. There was also a lot of footage of nothing where the record button was pressed without it being realized. I had to get rid of all of that, which really helped with the lag actually. After that little bump in the road, you could say, everything was smooth sailing. I got a lot done yesterday, so I would say it was pretty successful. Hopefully, everything else is that has to happen goes that smooth.

All that is left is to add the music. Then make any finishing touches that are needed, then I am all done. But before I attach the music, I have to detach the audio. Hopefully, I remember how to do that but I am pretty sure I do. Then I might have some finishing touches to do. If so, they shouldn't be that hard to fix. I think I will get a good grade, but I definitely do not have the best commercial. I am still not sure what kind of music I will use. But I hope I have enough time to do everything. Tomorrow the classes are shorter so that's the only reason that I am worried.

But overall the whole project was good. The recording went better than I thought it would. Just like everything else. The commercial was not exactly like my storyboard. But I think I did a pretty good job of following it. The filming started off a little shaky but once I figured it out it was ok. Still not the best filming but it was not bad for it being the first time. Then there was some trouble on the second day of filming. This is because I got outside to start filming and then checked the camera and it was just about dead. But the project was very good overall and I liked it.
